Robin Hood Film Set 2009 part 2

After visiting the set now several times I was excited to see what the film would look like. Or maybe more importantly what Russel Crowe would like like as Robin Hood. I found this picture which looks to be taken over at Farnham woods of Russel as Robin. The 44-year-old sports a slimmed-down physique and a new close-cropped haircut to play the prince of thieves.

Below are my latest pictures of the film set in Farnham woods and a couple of photos from another film set very near by.

Oxenford Farm

I had been told that down the road from us they were filming more of the movie on a local farm. I found the farm not too far away. I knew that is would be private land being a farm so thought better than to just start taking pictures and climbing over fences. So I went up to the farm and spoke to one of the many security guards drinking flasks of tea outside.

The chap I spoke to happened to be the owner of the farm and made it quite clear no one was allowed to take any photos. He even said someone had been trying to the day before and a neighbour had rung the police. After chatting to him for a while the guy said that they were currently filming for the next few days in Shepperton studios.

I took a couple of sneeky ones anyway. I couldn’t really see the main set from the road but if you drive along past slightly, you can see a whole town constructed with what looked like half a church.

Oxenford Farm still employs traditional farming methods today the farm can trace its origins back to it being recorded as a Ley farm for Waverley Abbey in the 12th century. The dominant buildings visible from the road are relatively modern and were designed by Augustus Pugin in 1840.

They once sat aside the principal entrance to the Peper Harow estate with the most striking being the Gothic styled ‘Tythe’ barn that stands by the carp pond, the latter having been created as part of the original 12th century Ley farm.

  1. Nice photos. In the RC photo, however, the bow looks too small. Classic longbows were nearly 6 feet in length, as only at that size could you get the requisite range. RC’s looks to be about 5 feet.

Apparently, the part of the set you weren’t able to photograph will be a Nottingham set, and on Wikipedia, it states that Scott is “happy” with the way the set has aged since it was built over a year ago.

    cheers

  2. Hi and thanks a lot for sharing those beautiful pics wit hall of us.
I live in Surrey, and I would like to come and “visit” nearby the set and the village too.

Please let me know whether I have to come by car or public transport can lead very close to the set./village.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Sabry

  3. I think you’ll find it’s called Oxenford Farm, we used to get our Christmas trees there! Apparently the old stone barn is genuinely old but what looks like a ruined chuch is in fact a folly (or so they told us once) They been building those sets since way back in last year in fact I thought they must have used them by now so was surprised to see all the activity the other day when I drove past.
I took some photos in Bourne Woods a couple of weeks ago you can find them on Flickr Here. > http://www.flickr.com/photos/26286848@N02/3438201877/in/photostream/

We watched them filming some of Gladiator years back but of course we had no idea who russell Crowe was then!
What lens did you use. I’ve got a 250mm zoom and was hoping to go back there whilst they were filming some time.

  4. Do you know if they need extras for this production, if so where do you go?

  5. Wow! That’s 5 mins from my house! Must go check it out! My friend told me how to get there, now just need to organise the adventure.

  6. @Sabrina thanks for your post, you have to travel by car then walk into the woods either by the main entrance or one of the surrounding estates. There is a map on my first post which should help alot.

@grigorisgirl Yeah my girlfriends family get thier christmas trees there aswell. My mistake with the name not sure how I got to that. I have just bought a new Sony SLR, I am looking now to get a 300mm G Lens. But need to be a bit clever with my money to do so haha.

If you get any more photos be sure to post your link up here again mate.

  7. looks like a mess to me!

  8. Though curious, I’m not sure taking sneaky photos is a good idea when permission has been denied…

  9. @Richard Not alot they can do when standing on a public highway but thanks for your concern :)

  10. New film at Bourne woods now, War Horse
