The new Robin Hood film being directed by Ridley Scott has been scheduled for release in 2010 is being partly filmed in Lower Bourne woods about a 5 minute walk from where I live. There is a huge set currently being constructed in the woods. The opening scene of Gladiator the battle with the Germanians was also filmed here.
Russell Crowe is staying at a hotel nearby and has been seen riding a horse through Bagshot forest. He was originally going to play a sympathetic sheriff, which then became a sheriff that is also Robin Hood (aka, Batman/Bruce Wayne), now he is just playing Robin Hood. The part of the sheriff (to be played by someone else) will be a minimal.
I have frequently been walking over the woods to see the sets progress, so thought it would be a great thing to start documenting in photos. It looks as though a castle is being built on the top of the hill with a small fort and village at the bottom with a blacksmiths and a small troop area.

Great to see these. Thanks for posting.
Cool photos Harry! Can you post a Google map of the location?
There you go Paul this is the exact spot where they are currently filming and building the set.
I also know that after Robin Hood they are filming part of the new Harry Potter Movie here.
This is also where we went sledging when it snowed. Plenty of hills. I’ll post some pictures up of then.
Thanks Harry for those great pics!
Do you think or know if they clear cut that area for the film?
Also, can I be “dragged” with you to the filmset next, hee hee? I will be as quiet as a churchmouse, I promise!
Thanks for the pics, Harry. I’m a Russell Crowe fan, who can’t wait for this movie! As well as being a Crowe fan, I’m also a fan of Harry Potter and VW’s as well. My own “baby” is a 1972 Beetle convertible–painted a metallic blue with a black top and black interior!
great pix, harry! thanks for taking the time to share them with us! another rc fan who’s very excited to see this new film, and the progress of the set is very welcome to see. i especially like the added touch of the styrofoam cup in the 5th pic. hopefully that will get removed before they start filming…
pleeez upload more photos
cant wait too warch the movie
im a great russell crowe and rildley scott fan.
do you know whos gonna make (compose) the music for the movie??
and again thanks for the image and pleeez upload more , i would love to see more of the sets
Thank you for posting these fantastic pics. This movie is going to be awesome.
a magnifical place for a magnifical film, I be sure it will be very succssefully, the mix russell and Ridley Scott is explosive. Thanks for these photos.
Thanks everybody for your great comments, I will be posting loads more pictures up this weekend.
@Lasse Not sure who is composing the music as of yet but will post it when I find out.
@sunflower not sure if I can bring anybody with me as it is very dangerous over Bourne wood at the moment with arrows flying everywhere and can’t take resposibility for another persons life haha. Oh and the area had already been cleared by Ridley Scott a few years back for Gladiator. They have now however planted many more trees around this current set which look very bright and lovely.
thats good news
remember to post when you find out whos the composer.
is it possible to take som pictures of them when hey are filming and post in on the blog ?
it had been very cool to look how the costumes are and how the movie is gonna look
thank you so much for these photos i would love to see more of them
love the robin hood stuff… keep up the good work!
Russell Crowe is staying at Pennyhill park hotel in Bagshot. The forest joins on to the back of the Hotel although I allways thought the set was based at Barrossa plains. A friend of mine met Mr. Crowe at the Half moon pub (situated inbetween Bagshot and Windlesham) and said he was a very polite and down to earth guy and wanted to know where the best cycling spots were in the area. Bagshot forest is open to the public and easy to get to.
Three of us went for a walk at the film set in the woods yesterday (Sunday), and then searched this site to find out what’s going on. The castle on the hill is 70% complete, built of white fiberglass type units. I assume they will paint it sometime. The village looks real impressive though. Lots of small huts with straw roofs. I’m not sure I would want to be cought in one in a storm though!
At the bottom of the hill, their WC portacabins are top class and very clean inside, and I’m very pleased it wasn’t locked. I’m sure Russel Crow will be impressed with the facilities. At the top of the hill, behing the castle there’s several mobile-film cabins, there are art cabins and two drying cabins. What are they for I wonder?
Russell Crowe is NOT staying at pennyhill anymore, I spoke to him and his family on sunday in windlesham where he is renting a house. I have met him several times in the area at various cafes, bars and just out and about recently. He is very approachable when he is NOT with his family. I know the people who provide the horses for the film sets and there are quite a few locations being used in the next few weeks. virginia water in surrey is the next location to be used after filming in hertfordshire this week, You can often find him with his family or cycling around virginia water or the village. He has not been at the half moon pub as far as I know as this is my local and I would know about it! try finding him at the bee or the surrey cricketers… both in windlesham village.
Apologies , I missed a comment there. There is a film set in swinley forest(bagshot) in which people are mistaking for the robin hood film set. It is actually the film set for the new Harry Potter movie being filmed for release next year. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have been in Bagshot village a lot recently at a particular “mexican” eatery in the village having a few drinks and a meal. Russell has joined them on one occasion recently in another “indian” in bagshot.
Just been to Virigina Water and there is a big ship on the lake and lots of straw buildings around the edge. Filming started on Friday for a week – one of the security men said it was Robin Hood
I live in Farnham and fancy having a nose, where abouts is it there filming??
russel crowe is staying in my fathers friends hse in hatton hill windlesham he is often found at the bee pub or more recently the brickmakers both in windleham. btw the ship in windosr great park is HARRY POTTER and robin hood is being filmed in the look out get your facts right
Hi
I grew up with Robin of Sherwood, seen the Walt Disney version of the hero as well as Kevin Cosnter’s Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves and plus Robin Hood with Patrick Bergin all are good and with great entertainment as well.
I like Gladiator, Legend, BladeRunner, Kingdom of Heaven, and Aliens.
He’s English and stands out as a innovative unconventional movie Director.
I am sure this take on Robin Hood will be great.
Thanks for the time
