Here are some of the first action scenes from the Robin Hood film set in Bourne Wood taken a few weeks back. The photos show the castle being sieged by an attacking force. The attacking force have pushed the battering ram up the hill to destroy the castle’s gates. As seen in the first photo there are arrows being fired from the castle walls and the defending force are boiling oil above the gates to pour down the murder holes on the gates attackers.

As you can see it makes quite the spectacle especially as it was filmed during the day. After these day scenes were filmed many night scenes had been filmed the following weeks in the tents below the castle. You can see more of the tents and the extent of the damage the castle took in these scenes in my previous post here.

The man standing on the left hand side of the battering ram I think is Kevin Durand (Little John)

And here is the man himself Robin Hood (Russel Crowe) sporting a pair of sunglasses while waiting for filming to presume. I am not sure who the character/actor standing to the right of Russel is but he’s big! Thanks Gordan for the photos very much appreciated.

Here is my latest set of photographs from the Robin Hood film set. I had been hearing that lot of day and night scenes have been filmed recently. So wasn’t surprised to find a lot had been going on.

I found a whole host of tents and flags below the castle this trip. I think the largest of the tents made from blue and gold colours had Richard the Lionheart’s flags flying (please correct me if I’m wrong). Many other coloured flags joined the army camps set up. If anybody can recognise any of the flags and who they belonged to I would be very interested indeed.

The portcullis had been broken and burnt through with the help of the very large battering ram seen earlier on in my posts. If you look closely enough the earth is scattered with many arrows which had been fired from the castle walls at the invading army.

The village has more or less been completely destroyed by fire now apart from the large fortified (wooden) gates. On my way over the film set I found what at first I thought was a dead falcon with it’s head missing! I wasn’t totally wrong in the end as it was a stuffed falcon prop with real feathers. It was obviously taken off the set by a very happy fox who took it’s head off right away. Only for the fox to find it filled with cotton wool. Better luck next time foxy

So they have been filming now in Bourne Woods now for just over 3 weeks. I did however get the chance to get over to the set the day before they started filming. I took some more photographs of the near complete castle, village/town and even some vehicles including a prison wagon. I will try and get over the set again soon. I hear they have a boat on the lake at Virginia Waters and the entrance to a castle built there as well.

I would Just like to say a big thanks for all of your kind comments over the last few months. Thanks to all the sites for linking with my blog also. I am Glad you have enjoyed seeing the film sets progress and will try to get myself over Bourne woods one last time before I am no longer allowed.

Been rather busy the last few weeks so haven’t had the chance to walk up the set as much as I’d like. But here are the photos of my last trip for you. The castle is well underway now being painted to look like stone. Wooden walkways are also being added with I’m guessing a gate and portcullis soon after. There is no room for a moat or drawbridge as it is on a hill. Defenses are being erected in front of the castle the same pencil type as which defends the fort sitting below.

Vegetable patches have been planted and keeps for animals have been put up within the centre few houses of the set.

Check out the Robin sitting on the defenses. Thought it was quite nice and slightly ironic.

As you may have seen in the Daily Mail Ridley Scott has been filming some scenes recently of what looks like French soldiers attacking a town. So I think filming will be starting soon in Bourne woods. I had a really cool comment today from a background artist working on the sets who said:

It has been an extraordinary experience “living” in Nottingham village most days and I’ve hated coming back to London. We have animals there and this week the soldiers turned out in force and it all came truly alive.

As I originally expected the huge structure at the top of the hill they have been building is now being covered. As you will see from the pictures it is turning into quite the castle! Painting work has been added to the stonework making it look pretty awesome. Everything I now see about this film makes me want to see it more, very exciting! I know Ridley Scott will not disappoint I watched for the umpteenth time the other day the Ridley Scott’s cut of Kingdom of Heaven. A great movie.

Funny story actually in the 3rd picture down there is a Charles Morris waste management container. Well good old Charlie Morris is my Great Uncle. Don’t see him much but my nan visits him all the time. Him and my Grandad set up the company ‘Charles Morris’ after the Second World War.

Here are some images of my most recent trip to Bourne Wood and Oxenford Farm Film sets. As you can see the Bourne set is now taking shape. The castle on the hill made of scaffolding is now being surrounded with wood. Stone is being added to the buildings and slates on the roofing of the village buildings. Trees have been added to the surrounding area to add growth and depth to the area. There is now even a place for the guard to stand atop the barricades.

I hope you are enjoying seeing the sets progress as much as I am.

Oxenford farm 3rd May 2009

Here are a few pictures I managed to get from the set on Oxenford farm. This set is quite large now and looks like a town with blacksmith church and many many houses. Ridley Scott has been said to be very pleased with this sets progress and has been building it for over a year now.

After visiting the sets I felt I deserved a pint of my favourite London Pride, on what has been a lovely weekend .

After visiting the set now several times I was excited to see what the film would look like. Or maybe more importantly what Russel Crowe would like like as Robin Hood. I found this picture which looks to be taken over at Farnham woods of Russel as Robin. The 44-year-old sports a slimmed-down physique and a new close-cropped haircut to play the prince of thieves.

Below are my latest pictures of the film set in Farnham woods and a couple of photos from another film set very near by.

Farnham Woods, 19th April 2009

Oxenford Farm

I had been told that down the road from us they were filming more of the movie on a local farm. I found the farm not too far away. I knew that is would be private land being a farm so thought better than to just start taking pictures and climbing over fences. So I went up to the farm and spoke to one of the many security guards drinking flasks of tea outside.

The chap I spoke to happened to be the owner of the farm and made it quite clear no one was allowed to take any photos. He even said someone had been trying to the day before and a neighbour had rung the police. After chatting to him for a while the guy said that they were currently filming for the next few days in Shepperton studios.

I took a couple of sneeky ones anyway. I couldn’t really see the main set from the road but if you drive along past slightly, you can see a whole town constructed with what looked like half a church.

Oxenford Farm still employs traditional farming methods today the farm can trace its origins back to it being recorded as a Ley farm for Waverley Abbey in the 12th century. The dominant buildings visible from the road are relatively modern and were designed by Augustus Pugin in 1840.

They once sat aside the principal entrance to the Peper Harow estate with the most striking being the Gothic styled ‘Tythe’ barn that stands by the carp pond, the latter having been created as part of the original 12th century Ley farm.

The new Robin Hood film being directed by Ridley Scott has been scheduled for release in 2010 is being partly filmed in Lower Bourne woods about a 5 minute walk from where I live. There is a huge set currently being constructed in the woods. The opening scene of Gladiator the battle with the Germanians was also filmed here.

Russell Crowe is staying at a hotel nearby and has been seen riding a horse through Bagshot forest. He was originally going to play a sympathetic sheriff, which then became a sheriff that is also Robin Hood (aka, Batman/Bruce Wayne), now he is just playing Robin Hood. The part of the sheriff (to be played by someone else) will be a minimal.

I have frequently been walking over the woods to see the sets progress, so thought it would be a great thing to start documenting in photos. It looks as though a castle is being built on the top of the hill with a small fort and village at the bottom with a blacksmiths and a small troop area.
